If there’s anything we as geeks love, it’s stuff. All kinds of stuff! Stuff that we love is even better stuff than any stuff. The best kind of stuff is the stuff that reminds us of the stuff we already love. For example, in my bedroom, I have posters of Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor, Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite, Korra from The Legend of Korra, Norman, Roger, and Dorothy from The Big O, an ad for the Murder of Crows from BioShock Infinite, Stephen Colbert conquering the world, Dragon Ball Z characters (specially signed by voice actors Sonny Strait and Mike McFarland), and two wall scrolls: one of Sailor Mercury and one of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, signed by voice actress Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. However, if I thought that stuff was cool, it is nothing compared to my latest bit of stuff, which Insomnia Princess gave to me.
As you well know, I am an ardent fan of NiGHTS into Dreams… by Sonic Team. It really is that rare game that captures the imagination, poses interesting philosophical questions, and is an enjoyable game in and of itself. I turned IP onto it a while back and we both love it for all of the reasons I have expounded before. Therefore, when she showed me a figure of NiGHTS that was handcrafted by an artist and distributed through a site called First4Figures.com, I was mad jelly. There were only five hundred of the special edition worldwide and I had little doubt I would not get one. After all, they were selling for over $200 USD, and notwithstanding my career as a lawyer, I did not have that kind of money to spend quite so liberally at the time and they were selling at lightning speed.
But whatever, you know? It was not the end of the world to me and life moved on. However, IP said something to me about a present that she wanted to give me but it was not quite ready. Occasionally, I would wonder about it but I would not think long about it. Months passed, and then a whole year, and then, not too long ago, she said she had a present for me. I connected the dots and realized it was that present she mentioned to me ages ago. She admitted she would never have told me if she knew it was going to take so long. So, I received a box considerably taller than that of the average gift. I was intrigued. What could it be? I carefully pulled aside the wrapping paper (incidentally, she wrapped this box really well and I was almost reluctant to pull it off). Finally, the moment of truth. Yes, you guessed it.
She got me a box with Styrofoam in it! Joy of joy and wonder of wonders!
Oh, and also one of the limited edition NiGHTS statues. BEHOLD, COVETOUS MORTALS!
This made my life. I could not imagine a more wonderful gift. I was so incredibly thankful, for I had never been given anything more precious in my lifetime. And ermagherd it lights up!
Like I said, there are only 500 of these in the entire world. How cool is this? To have NiGHTS with me when I fall asleep is simply a dream come true.
Naturally, the only proper thing to do is urge you to patronize the very fine artists at First4Figures.com. Their library is expanding all the time. Last month, they opened up a new Arwing figure from the StarFox video game series. Their available products read like a character roster from Smash Bros., whether it’s Mario, Sonic, Link, Kirby, Samus, Zelda, Mega Man, and more. The painstaking amount of detail in the artists’ work is what truly sets First4Figures apart from the rest. The photos I have shown fail to grasp the intricate brushwork of the artist who painted the tiny patterns on NiGHTS’s sleeves (the patterns are more distinctly visible on NiGHTS’s legs). This is truly a work of art, as are all of the beautiful crafts from the good people at First4Figures. It comes as absolutely no wonder that I waited for over a year for this, and it was worth every second, for this is a masterpiece. You can also authenticate your figure to ensure that you have a genuine article and get the same product number for every subsequent figure you purchase. I authenticated my figure not too long ago and it is very easy. If you are looking for a gift for that special nerdy someone, I heartily recommend First4Figures. Check out their Facebook page and give them a like, courtesy of us!
(srsly, if I knew this is what it was, I would’ve done something like an unboxing video…those things are as popular as cat pictures these days)
