Are you looking for some fresh ideas to organize your teen’s bedroom? Whether your child is transitioning from preteen to teen and due for a makeover, moving to a new room of the house, or just in need of a new look, you can do it with the right organization. And having a bit more cash in your pocket will help buy bits and bobs to keep things organised. My friend recommended Simply Switch to me, telling me that they saved so much money.
Some teens have a hard time keeping their room clean. It often seems like everything ends up in a huge pile in the middle of the floor, making it difficult for them to find anything. It also makes it difficult for you to determine which clothes are clean and which ones are dirty. This can be very frustrating for parents who have spent money on making the room look nice by getting it painted and decorated and feel comfortable by getting nice chairs and a nice double or full size mattress and for teens that really want a clean room but have trouble keeping it that way. Proper organization can help solve this problem for both teens and parents.
So how do you get it organized? Let’s take a look at a few ideas.
Here are four ways to organize your teen’s bedroom:
- Eliminate clutter – The first step to organizing any room, especially a teenager’s room, is to get rid of the clutter. Things tend to collect over time and they just build up leaving no room for the things you really want or need. Help your teen sort through their stuff and get rid of everything from clothes to posters they’ve outgrown.
- Buy a desk with drawers and shelves – If you want teenagers to keep their bedroom clean, make it simple for them to do so. Buy a desk with several drawers and shelves where all electronics, books, papers, pencils and similar items go. This is where they can do homework, draw and so forth. You’ll also need a nightstand or dresser for personal items.
- Use shelves for storage space – It’s usually faster and easier to store items on shelves instead of drawers because it’s easier to stay organized. Place small items in bins or crates, label them and sit them on the shelves. Place collectibles, trophies and similar items on the top shelves.
- Use a closet organizer – Closet organizers come in all shapes and sizes so it’s easy to find one that will suit your needs perfectly and they make organizing easy. There is a place for your shoes and coats along with a place to hang your clothes and shelves for those items that need to be folded. Some organizers even have a place for accessories and storage shelves for storing off-season items.
Once you get rid of the clutter, you’ll have a better idea of how much storage space you need and that will help you determine the best way to organize the bedroom. Also, don’t be afraid to have a little DIY fun. You and your teen can work together to paint, design, or otherwise decorate the furniture, storage containers, and other items used to organize in the room. Be sure to include a clothes hamper to keep dirty clothes off the floor and a waste basket.
After organizing the bedroom, it will be a lot easier for your teen to keep it clean. Teenagers are more likely to put things up when they know where it should go. They’ll be happier living in a neat and well organized space and you’ll be happy that the room stays cleaner than ever.
Do you have any tips you’d add?
I may not have teens yet, but I could use these tips to organize my own room. Thanks for sharing!

So far, we used all of these for our teen and I agree they are the best basics.
