Coolest Thing I Saw Today: BoxLunch

February 14, 2017 by Lisa Leave a Comment

Nowadays, geek merchandise is everywhere. LootCrate and Indiebox, not to mention others besides, will send regular shipments of swag to your door. Go to any comic book or anime convention and you will probably see a sizeable dealer’s room brimming from floor to ceiling with anything and everything you could ever want. DVDs, comic books, video games, plushies, jewelry, clothes, action figures, models, hand-forged armaments, board games, and millions of little, plastic knick-knacks; the list goes on and on. Today, I’d like to tell you about a place I recently discovered that caters to our crowd: BoxLunch.

What Is BoxLunch?

The best way to summarize BoxLunch is to call it Hot Topic’s philanthropic cousin. BoxLunch sells all kinds of fun accoutrements for the nerd who has settled down and wants to give his/her place that uniquely nerdy touch. Franchises you can find here include Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, DC, Nintendo, and Game of Thrones. However, there is something here for everyone, from the lowliest muggle to the l33t35t h4x0r in pursuit of Funko Pop toys. Looking for an Overwatch hoodie and matching Pachimari plushie? BoxLunch has you covered. Want a replica of Sailor Moon’s Rainbow Moon Chalice or Spiral Heart Moon Rod? You can find them at BoxLunch. Need some waffles for breakfast but just can’t find the motivation unless you have a waffle iron adorned with BB-8? Get it at BoxLunch!

My BoxLunch Experience

When I first went to BoxLunch, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. I saw that it had all kinds of pop culture stuff in the windows, but I put off going inside until one day when my curiosity got the best of me. After browsing the store’s wares, I did some shopping for that special, dorky someone in my life for Valentine’s Day. The cashier asked me to join the loyalty program, and although I passed on it at the time, I came back the next day and realized I had much more to gain from joining. I saved money right away on my second purchase. In the end, I may have splurged a little and spoiled my valentine with a ton of stuff:

I also couldn’t help myself and had to get some things to indulge my crippling Sonic addiction.

By far, the most amusing thing I got for myself was Sonic soap. Even better, it’s soap in the shape of the 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cartridge! I kid you not.

While I don’t have my old cartridge handy for scale, I’m certain this was carved to match the size of a Sega Genesis cartridge. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “If only they sold Sonic soap in the Nineties, I totally wouldn’t have gone through my stinky phase!” I know, right? Actually, I imagine you’re thinking I’m a hopeless nerd, but at least I smell good. My valentine says the soap smells lightly of coconut and palm oils, so it has a pleasant fragrance without being overbearing. #gottasoapfast

Why BoxLunch?

Okay, but now here’s what you’re really thinking: “Great but I can get stuff like that anywhere on the Internet.” You’re right, but what sets BoxLunch apart from ordering things elsewhere online is that philanthropic bit I mentioned earlier. You see, every time you spend $10 at BoxLunch, the company helps provide a meal secured by Feeding America on behalf of a local food pantry. Thus, whenever you buy, you’re giving that money to someone in need right in your local area. BoxLunch even gave me a little card to explain all of this to my valentine. That’s great, since she’s the sort of person who’d feel guilty about me spoiling her. Now she can be spoiled with a clean conscience!

BoxLunch is the coolest find I have hit upon in a long time, and I can assure you that the company offers incredible deals. The prices won’t break your bank, but with all of the special deals to get things for free, you’ll tote home a trunkload of stuff. I strongly encourage you to check out BoxLunch’s website to see if there is a store near you, and if there isn’t, you can still shop online. Presently, we’re not partnered or affiliated with BoxLunch in any way — this is just my personal endorsement of a socially-minded corporation that sells merchandise I genuinely want. Hungry for more? Savor over all the little details at BoxLunch.com today!
