“Through the genius of science, you can affect the world for great good or great evil. That’s the risk you take when you experience with Mad Science!”
I’ve been looking at Loot Crates for a long time now. My friends get them, my favorite YouTubers get them, and I’m always seeing the ads pop up online. I get the concept, as I’ve had other subscription boxes before, but hesitated to sign up before. Finally, I decided to go for it this year and review them here on the site for you all. So the first box I got was from Loot Crate Gaming. They have the regular crates and also different themed boxes and I really liked the gaming and the anime themed ones but I saw this month’s gaming one had a Portal item in it so that’s what I went for.
I also ordered the regular Loot Crate to compare but I missed the cutoff for January’s box so I will be getting February’s. Look for a review coming soon about that one. So, what did we get in the January gaming box?
Loot Gaming is themed for every month. January’s theme was ‘Mad Science’ and featured Psychonauts, Portal, Resident Evil, and Mega Man game items.
In this box:
- Mega Man Proto Man Helmet
- Portal Companion Cube Necktie
- Resident Evil 7 T-Shirt
- Mad Science Coin Pin
- Psychonaunts Goggles
We also get this fun poster and the Loot Crate box itself converts into a companion cube.
What are my overall thoughts? I think what you get is nice for the price. I liked the items and the t-shirt fit well (I got a ladies and sometimes the fit on these is off with certain companies). It was also made from a soft material and not itchy, uncomfortable type. You have to be VERY careful opening your box or you’d cut the companion cube and this isn’t something you’d know unless you knew that’s what you were getting this month so that could be a downer. Other people said the Mega Man helmet was similar to one in another, previous crate but since this is my first one, I can’t really comment on that. I liked it though. The Goggles are cute and they are a step above dollar-store quality but not quite cosplay material. They’re made of plastic – nice to look at but wouldn’t hold up with actual wear.
The pin is great. I love the design and I love the material. You could wear this on a lanyard or backpack and it’s not going to break easily on you. The necktie was nice but I imagine not everyone has a regular use for that. I love it but I gave mine to Caelestis since he wears ties more than me. :p Still, it was a fun little box and I’m glad I subscribed. I look forward to February’s box and I’ll let you know more of what I think.
