There’s more to Asbury Park, New Jersey than just being the title of a great Bruce Springsteen album. If you’re planning a visit there are several must see attractions and plenty of fun activities in and around Asbury Park to please the whole family. These days Asbury Park isn’t a tourist filled location which means a peaceful time to meander through the history and beautiful natural attractions.
The Stone Pony
For those who associate Asbury Park with the music world The Stone Pony is at the top of the list of things to see. This legendary rock venue has been the launch pad for artists like Steve Van Zandt and many others over the years. Since the 70s this rock-n-roll landmark has stood the test of time and still offers top names in entertainment on a regular schedule!
Shark River Park
Spend a day with the family at Shark River Park and enjoy nature. There are hiking trails designed for short hikes that offer varying degrees of difficulty. The river offers great fishing and riverbank lounging areas while covered picnic tables offer shade and a great place to enjoy a meal.
Asbury Park Boardwalk
Take a trip back in time and visit the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Once upon a time Asbury Park was “the” vacation destination in New Jersey, the boardwalk tell the story. The historic Paramount Theater and Convention Hall mark the beginning of your trek. Collect pieces of nostalgic Americana and photos of the old boardwalk while checking out the upgraded and new restaurants like Supper Club and Grille. All of the old amusement park sections and rides have gone away with nothing more than the carousel’s empty copper roundhouse remaining. The boardwalk is a look through history, and something that should be visited if you are in Asbury Park.
Springsteen Tour
There are many references to Asbury Park locations on Springsteen’s albums because it was his hometown. The Empress Motel, Casino, Madam Marie’s fortune telling booth, the Circuit, the Fast Lane and more. If you are a Springsteen fan, set up a playlist and visit all the notable locations in Asbury Park.
While Asbury Park isn’t the vacation destination it used to be, there is definitely a lot of history in this part of New Jersey and a trip through yesteryear is always worth the time. If you’re going to be in New Jersey, don’t leave without a visit to Asbury Park, you won’t regret it.
