Sometimes we get bored of our main game or we just want to do something different. Or maybe you’re one of those gamers who loves collecting games (who doesn’t?) but you don’t have the budget to buy new games at full price all the time. Or maybe youâre just a poor student who doesnât have enough money to spend on games. Whatever the situation, youâll be happy to know that there are several ways to get games for free and for very cheap- and weâre talking strictly legal methods here.
Steam
If you have a Steam account then you probably already know about the specials they offer but did you know they have regular weekly deals? Week Long deals from Steam start every Monday at 10AM PST and feature up to 90% off of some games. Steam also has weekend and holiday specials and sometimes these specials let you get a game for free for a limited time.
Steam also has a nice Free to Play section with hundreds of games (and they’re not all RPGs either). Some of the most popular free games on Steam are Dota 2, Team Fortress 2 and Warframe. You can find titles like Neverwinter, Rift, Star Trek Online, APB Reloaded, Planetside 2, Marvel Heroes and more. So if you have not gotten all the free games from Steam yet, head over and check it out.
SteamGifts.com
This is a resource site that allows Steam users to give away games and game keys in a raffle-style fashion. There are public and private giveaways and you enter using a point system. Unless itâs a developer promotion with many copies of the same game, your odds of winning are kind of slim but itâs fun, it doesnât take a lot of time and if you do it long enough, you will end up getting some free games out of it.
Amazon
The Amazon Outlet has regular video game deals so it’s a good one to bookmark and check into often. You can also find new and used games on Amazon for a fraction of their cost elsewhere. Amazon is also set up for the purchase of digital games and game codes so for many games you donât even have to wait for it to be shipped to you.
And Amazon also has a free video game section where you can find titles like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Magicka Wizard Wars, Dungeons and Dragons Online, EVE Online, LOTRO, Need for Speed World and more.
There are various subreddits devoted to the purpose of free games. Some to look into are Random Acts of Gaming and the Steam Game Swap but there are many more. You will find a lot of game trading, posts about free games available online and more. In the Steam Game Swap, for example, people will trade games they no longer want for other games, TF2 keys, Beta keys to other games, etc.
Always be polite, thank people for their offers and use safe trading practices when using subreddits like the Steam Game Swap.
Reddit is also a great source for finding out about awesome sales on Steam, Amazon or from other game dealers and distributors.
